Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Foundation Chain & Oval Base
Leaving an 8-inch starter tail, chain 30 with your 5.0mm hook.
Round 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (29 sc). Do not turn. Rotate to work down opposite unworked loops of the chain: 1 sc in each of the 29 loops.
Do not join. You will have 58 sc stitches total forming an oval perimeter.
Step 2: Continuous Spiral in Back Loop Only (BLO)
Round 2: Working strictly in the Back Loop Only (BLO), work 1 sc in each of the 58 sts around.
Rounds 3 - 22: Continue working 1 sc BLO in continuous spirals with zero increases or decreases.
Magic Fold Observation: Around Round 12, you will notice the sides begin folding inward at a 45-degree angle.
Continue working until the two diagonal open edges touch each other completely flat.
Step 3: Seaming Diagonal & Hanging Loop
When the diagonal edges meet, align the front and back loops together.
Whipstitch or slip-stitch through both layers across the diagonal opening to seal the square.
Hanging Loop: At the corner, chain 12. Slip stitch back into the corner to form a sturdy hanging loop. Work 14 sc around the chain-12 loop for reinforced durability.
