Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Foundation Chain & Ribbed Rectangle
Leaving an 8-inch starter tail, chain 42 with your 5.0mm hook (height is approx 11.5 inches).
Row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (41 hdc).

Do not cut yarn short! Leave a long 24-inch (60 cm) tail for side seaming and crown cinching.
Step 2: Seaming The Side Tube
Fold the rectangle in half, matching Row 1 directly against Row 60 with right sides together.
Using your hook, slip stitch through the outer loops of both edges across all 41 stitches.
Alternatively, thread your long yarn tail onto your tapestry needle and mattress stitch through the matching loops.
You will now have an open cylindrical tube that fits comfortably around your head.
Step 3: Cinching The Crown & Folding The Brim
Thread the remaining yarn tail onto your tapestry needle.
